Terms and Conditions

1.    Driving License

For the driver a valid driving licence from the country of residence or an international driving permit is required. The renter/hirer must be over 25 years of age and have a valid driving licence for minimum of 24 months. He must be in possession of proper means of identification other than a driving licence.

It is possible to book for a second driver.

2.    Insurance

All our vehicles are insured. But in all cases (unless by wilful or negligent damage) the first USD 1500 = of any damage must be paid by the renter/hirer. Loss/damage of tyres, tools, camping equipment and windscreens/glasses are not covered by the insurance. Also fires, overspeeding, offroad damages and driving in war zones are not covered.

Our Insurance also does not cover beside of East Africa that means it covers for the following countries Uganda / Ruanda / Tansania / Kenya they are all included.

A compulsory daily insurance is possible to book extra. The rate for the compulsory insurance is 10$ per day. With that you can reduce the self-deductible amount in cases of loss/damages down to 500$.

In case for hire/rent with a driver from our partner agencies there will be a reduction from the insurance.

The rate for our driver will be 40$ per day.

All emergencies or damage must be told as fast as possible to Big five car rental Ltd. So that we can arrange a new transport, repairs etc..

3.    Mechanical breakdowns & repairs

In case of a mechanical breakdown which cannot be repaired within 24 hours and which is not the result of your negligence, fault or by that of an approved driver, a replacement Vehicle will be provided and paid for by the Big five car rental Ltd. As soon as possible.

In case the Vehicle needs to be repaired during the rental period, the Hirer ensures that first Big five car rental Ltd. Office is contacted for authorization prior to any repairs to the Vehicle.

The company needs the receipt issued on Big five car rental Ltd.. This should be given to the office in Entebbe at the drop off from the vehicle.-

When bringing the Vehicle to any garage, valuables should not be left in the Vehicle (even the car tool kit) as it is not uncommon for items to be stolen at the garage. Hirers are required to replace items lost or stolen from the Vehicle (including spare tires, jacks and other tools which come with the Vehicle).

4.    Accidents

In case of an accident, whether it is your fault or those of the third party, the renter/hirer should always immediately contact Big five car rental Ltd., take pictures of the damaged Vehicle and the other vehicle(s) involved in the accident if its possible and process and clear a police report. The staff from our company will help you through this process.

In case of an incident involving one or more vehicle(s), details of these vehicle(s) and their driver(s) should be identified and reported, such as the driver’s ID, telephone number, number plate and insurance registration number.

After an accident, the renter/hirer should not leave the Vehicle unattended, as it is not uncommon for unattended vehicles to be vandalized.

5.    Deposit for the self drive

A deposit equivalent to the estimated total cost of the rental/hire plus the fee from USD 10 is required by credit card or in cash.

6.    Theft Protection

The vehicle must be locked when unattended. The vehicle must not be parked in a public area for long periods and overnight. The renter/hirer is responsible for the security of the vehicle and in the event of theft is liable for payment of USD 1500. The renter/hirer is not allowed to carry passengers for reward or gain.

7.    Car Hire Agreement

Self drive cars are rented/hired subject to the Big five car rental Ltd. standard from of agreement. Notwithstanding the above and below conditions the company reserves the right to refuse a hire/rent at any time without assigning any reasons. Driving beyond 7 pm by night is not allowed only in case of emergencies.

8.    Petrol and oil etc..

Self drive rates exclude petrol, border taxes and engine oil.

If you want to drive with the vehicle to other countries besides Uganda there will be an extra fee for the paper/paperworks for the letter of authority and insurance.

9.    The fee

The fee for the rental period will be calculated on the base of the time and the extra`s like camping equipment, driver, other countries etc..

Hire rates are daily and not based on a 24 hours system.

10. Payments

Visa, Mastercard, American Express and cash are accepted.

11. Return of the vehicle

The vehicle should be returned clean and with full tank. The drop-off of the car should be at the place from where it was rented from. If you want to drop it off at another location there will/could be additional costs for the pick-up service from the Ltd. But the costs will depend on the drop-off location.

12. Governing Law

All reservations, bookings made and services provided by Big five car rental Ltd. a Car will be subject to Uganda law and are within the jurisdiction of the Ugandan Courts.
